My Top Valentine Romance Picks!
Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie is a hysterical romp with witty back and forth dialogue similar to Doris Day and Rock Hudson movies. I'm a huge fan of Jennifer Cruise, but with Bet Me it was the first time that I finished a book and immediately started reading it again. Here we have a feisty, overweight heroine who is being pressured by her mother to lose weight for her sister's upcoming wedding. Enter the hero who only dates her to win a bet. Of course the date goes incredibly bad and they agree never to see each other again. It's delightful, heartwarming, laugh out loud funny, and real. This book also won the RITA Award for best Contemporary Romance in 2005, which is the highest honor for a romance book.
Kerrigan Byrne seduced me into falling in love with historicals again. I used to read them all back in the 80s and 90s, but they lost favor with me as the heroines seemed weak and whiny. Kerrigan writes strong, independent heroines who are a match for her dark, gothic heroes. The Highwayman is the first book in her Victorian Rebels Series where the men walk in the shadows and the women save them.
RaeAnne Thayne grabs you by the heart and doesn't let go with each of her stories. Her characters are multifaceted and genuine. Get ready for an emotional, rewarding ride with Redemption Bay or any others of RaeAnne Thayne's heartwarming stories.
To Die For by Linda Howard is another book I have reread countless times. So many in fact that I had to buy another copy as I wore out my first one. Blair Mallory is a sassy, flirty, firecracker who has the hero, Wyatt Bloodsworth flummoxed and twitterpated. A satisfying read full of humor, mystery, and danger with a hero you will lust for long after the last page is read.
Ain't She Sweet by Susan Elizabeth Phillips features an unlikable heroine, at first. She's done some bad things, enough that she was run out of town. Its years later and she's returned home to face the music and put things right. She completely won me over. It's funny, poignant, and full of redemption that will leave you believing in the healing power of love.
There is nothing I love more than a tortured hero and Dageus MacKeltar in The Dark Highlander by Karen Marie Moning is that hero. He fights every day to keep his soul from being taken over by thirteen dark Druids, a battle he is losing until he meets Chloe. Somehow she helps quiet the demons, and he can't help himself in kidnapping her. This is a dark, sensual, complex book with hot Highlander Druids, dark magic, medieval time-travel, the Fae, and an epic fight of light against dark that will keep you reading until the sun rises.
Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost is the ultimate in Vampire Romances featuring Dracula himself as the hero. Take my word for it. This is a smoking hot book with a heroine that is not only a match for Vlad but, dare I say, a threat. If you like hot, sexy vampires that are true to their nature and don't sparkle you will absolutely love Once Burned.
